A 31 year male old rigger fell 35 feet to his death in Phoenix. Early stories said he fell from a stage, but later stories say he fell off of the arch structure below while doing preparation work for the 2015 Super Bowl.

Ryan “Scrappy” Lipman, 31, died Jan. 14 after falling more than 25 feet to a stage under construction for the NFL’s Super Bowl XLIX tailgate party outside the University of Phoenix Stadium. Emergency responders transported Lipman from the work site to the hospital about noon. Lipman succumbed to his injuries after reaching the hospital.

Police have described the fall as a workplace accident, and the Industrial Commission of Arizona and the state’s OSHA are both investigating. Citing Lipman’s experience, rigging skill and safety-conscious work practices, co-workers were wondering what other factors could have played a role, according to reports. Some have speculated on a possible medical condition, but a clearer understanding of what caused the fall may not be known until the investigations are complete, a process that usually takes at least several months.
